My Morning Jacket

My Morning Jacket - Librarian
Alternative Rock Band ' My Morning Jacket' has a great song for all you Librarians out there. A beautifully hopeful song, I just adore it and I'm sure you will too, whether you are a librarian or not.

Bye for now,

The Guybrarian and Libraries in the Social Media

Men in the library services in the modern age that they have penned a term for themselves; The Guybrarian. A came across the twitter account of a self proclaimed "guybrarian" David Wright. His twitter account is fun and informative, giving reviews of books and links back to the blog he operates for Booklists, the American Library Associations twice monthly magazine.

Find his twitter account at https://twitter.com/guybrarian

Libraries are jumping on the social media bandwagon and personally, I applaud them. In a world where information is spread quickly and the global community is getting smaller and smaller every day, the fact that our public institutions are staying up to date with these trends is important. Facebook and Twitter can provide new and interesting marketing campaigns and allow the library to have an approachable facade.

The National Library of Australia has a wonderful Facebook page that regularly updates its statuses and lots of pictures. Find it here: https://www.facebook.com/National.Library.of.Australia?fref=ts

Cats - The Not-So-New Internet Sensation

What is it about animal clips that people just love? YouTube has thousands of clips purely devoted to cats alone. Animals are funny, mischievous and so wonderfully loving that you can't help but adore them. Like this clip from youtube:

I love animals, they make you laugh and make you cry, and sometimes they make you cry from laughing so hard.

Have a wonderful day,

One is the lonliest number!

As I am doing this subject off campus, I have no classmates and therefore can't comment on their blogs (a requirement for my project). Luckily for me, an old alumni of my course still has her blog alive and therefore I commented on one of her old posts. Thank you very much Ida Bright! I also wish her all the best in her Library Technician career!

I posted this comment here

Two blog posts in one day! What an over-achiever!

See you next time,

Blogging, So Last Year?

Blogs were the next big thing five years ago. Everyone had a blog. My great aunt had a blog. My dog had a blog. Ok, this may be a bit of an exaggeration, after all I didn't have a blog and neither did George (my dog). But blogs were everywhere. Today, blogs as a form of social communication are less prevalent as social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter can help you broadcast to millions of people and then network with their friends through the Live Feed system. It is really quite extraordinary to see the way information is assimilated. But that's not to say that the humble blog is dead. Its having quite a resurgence with the advent of sites such as Pinterest, which allows people to pin websites of interest to a public board that can be searched and perused by other users. If you haven't joined the Pinterest Revolution yet, get right on that!
George, he blogged before it was cool man!

So, back to blogs. Blogs are still very popular and informal way to spread information to users. For instance, I quite like the State Library of NSW Aquisitions Blog which allows you to get a glimpse of the type new material that comes into the Library's collection every day. This blog is great because it is updated frequently and new posts occur about twice a week.

Happy Blogging,
