Fun in the Sun and then back to reality!

Wow, it's been a month and a half? How are you all? I just chuckled to myself. I'm fairly sure I write this blog to myself. Actually, I have 2 blogs that I write to myself. Is blogging to myself the same as talking to myself? I'll have to get a professional opinion on that.
Anyway, I've got a good reason for being absent from my blog. I've been on holidays, just spending my days lying on a beach reading a book and drinking wine.

In the background, you will see the Batemans Bay Lifesaving Club practising their rowing. They definiately enhanced the already beautiful view. Did you know they give themselves speedo wedgies, so they don't slip around on the seat whilst they're rowing? I had no idea either but I enjoyed finding that one out first hand!

Quick book update: Slow Burn is free on Amazon from the 22nd to the 26th of December. The second novel is coming along nicely. Once I transfer it from notebook to word file I'll let you know how many words I am up to.

Well that was a reasonably quick post. I'll leave you with this:

Until next time,

Back in Black

Well hello there! Bet you didn't think you'd be hearing from me again! But I'm back and I'm giving this blog a makeover. Some of you may know that I started this blog as a school project, however it is going to get a new lease on life, a little like me. You see, in the time between my last post and this one I published a book! *and the crowd goes wild!!!* I know, I'm pretty excited too!

You can get my book here!

Yes, its only in eBook format, and only on Kindle for the time being. In January I shall make it available to more formats. I also made another blog, on a different blogging site which will follow the process of marketing my book and other self publishing dramas. It will also follow the progress of my new book, right from its inception.

You can find my other blog here, at Madeline Young Writes

So I hear you say, "if you have a fancy new blog, what do you need this one for?"

Well my fine feathered friends, this blog, so aptly named The Little Imaginarium, is going to my creative space. I'm going to post random things that make me feel creative, pictures that make me laugh, music and clips that inspire me. This blog will be all play! No angry posts about lack of sales, writers block, or the IRS. That's for the stuffy other blog. This blog is for .gifs of cats climbing into cups, funny anecdotes about George and touching pictures of firefighters saving kittens from burning buildings. I'm sure there will be non-animal related posts too!

I'm glad you guys are along for the ride. Until next time,

My Morning Jacket

My Morning Jacket - Librarian
Alternative Rock Band ' My Morning Jacket' has a great song for all you Librarians out there. A beautifully hopeful song, I just adore it and I'm sure you will too, whether you are a librarian or not.

Bye for now,

The Guybrarian and Libraries in the Social Media

Men in the library services in the modern age that they have penned a term for themselves; The Guybrarian. A came across the twitter account of a self proclaimed "guybrarian" David Wright. His twitter account is fun and informative, giving reviews of books and links back to the blog he operates for Booklists, the American Library Associations twice monthly magazine.

Find his twitter account at https://twitter.com/guybrarian

Libraries are jumping on the social media bandwagon and personally, I applaud them. In a world where information is spread quickly and the global community is getting smaller and smaller every day, the fact that our public institutions are staying up to date with these trends is important. Facebook and Twitter can provide new and interesting marketing campaigns and allow the library to have an approachable facade.

The National Library of Australia has a wonderful Facebook page that regularly updates its statuses and lots of pictures. Find it here: https://www.facebook.com/National.Library.of.Australia?fref=ts

Happy blogging,

Cats - The Not-So-New Internet Sensation

What is it about animal clips that people just love? YouTube has thousands of clips purely devoted to cats alone. Animals are funny, mischievous and so wonderfully loving that you can't help but adore them. Like this clip from youtube:

I love animals, they make you laugh and make you cry, and sometimes they make you cry from laughing so hard.

Have a wonderful day,

One is the lonliest number!

As I am doing this subject off campus, I have no classmates and therefore can't comment on their blogs (a requirement for my project). Luckily for me, an old alumni of my course still has her blog alive and therefore I commented on one of her old posts. Thank you very much Ida Bright! I also wish her all the best in her Library Technician career!

I posted this comment here

Two blog posts in one day! What an over-achiever!

See you next time,

Blogging, So Last Year?

Blogs were the next big thing five years ago. Everyone had a blog. My great aunt had a blog. My dog had a blog. Ok, this may be a bit of an exaggeration, after all I didn't have a blog and neither did George (my dog). But blogs were everywhere. Today, blogs as a form of social communication are less prevalent as social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter can help you broadcast to millions of people and then network with their friends through the Live Feed system. It is really quite extraordinary to see the way information is assimilated. But that's not to say that the humble blog is dead. Its having quite a resurgence with the advent of sites such as Pinterest, which allows people to pin websites of interest to a public board that can be searched and perused by other users. If you haven't joined the Pinterest Revolution yet, get right on that!
George, he blogged before it was cool man!

So, back to blogs. Blogs are still very popular and informal way to spread information to users. For instance, I quite like the State Library of NSW Aquisitions Blog which allows you to get a glimpse of the type new material that comes into the Library's collection every day. This blog is great because it is updated frequently and new posts occur about twice a week.

Happy Blogging,
